It all starts with the relationships that we build with our minis from day one.   Our horses are picked originally for their temperament and personality as well as their size.  We spend months teaching them manners, and desensitizing them to new, potentially scary things all while they learn how to listen and respond to their handler, this includes becoming familiar with different objects and noises so they can remain calm in any situation during therapy. In order for these animals to be able to do their job well they must have exposure to all types of people, and circumstances.   When we feel they are ready, we then begin their indoor training.  Thanks to the Village of Valley View Community Center and their staff we can work on different types of flooring, elevators, and get exposure to small crowds of people.  As they continue to progress we move on to cart training and different exercises that include large crowds and loud noises. Below you will see some of the pictures of their training.   In addition to all of our in facility training, horse shows, fairs, parades, and community events all serve as training exercises that improve listening skills, and adds an additional layer to the mini and handler relationship.  These types of events not only provide exposure to new people and situations for the minis but they are also good educational opportunities for people who may not know what we do, or that our services are available. In addition to all of their training with us these horses also get plenty of exercise and interaction daily with each other where they have the ability to run, and play.
